I've been face painting since I was 18, I'm now 46. I wanted my face painted at a Rennisance Festival and my husband and I where so very poor that we only had a certain amount of money and all I wanted was my face painted, well $20.00 and one craptacular face paint later I remember sitting in our truck and weeping I was so sad over it. That was when I decided I was going to learn how to Face Paint and I was never going to have a unhappy person leave my chair. I started out like most painters my age using acrylic. I now use Wolfe and Sanz. I love it! I now have a 13 year old apprentence and she's really got a knack for it.
I was a Vet Tech for 13 years aka a Animal Care Nurse. I loved my job but it became to hard for me to see so many senseless deaths and I began to die a little myself. I had started selling my art fairly regulary and what I was making with my art was right up there with my paycheck from the clinic, after coming home in tears yet again my husband of 29 years said that was it and I was not going back. I have never been happier or healthier. Gives me more time with my 8 rescued dogs and my two horses that I try and ride every day! Not to mention my loving supportive husband.
I spend alot of time home, I sculpt, I paint, I draw, I sew, I make jewlery, you name it I have tried it. I make a fairly good living off my art and I am grateful every time someone thinks enough of my art to purchase it. I spend alot of time with my horses, I ride daily and my friends and I enjoy extreme trail riding where we challenge our horses and ourselves. I am active in my Church and spend alot of time with two teen girls I consider my little sisters.
After reading and researching I came to realize I had to stop using Acrylic paint and started with a Snazaroo pallet of 38 colors one of the small pallets, and it was okay. I then got a small Wolfe essentials pallet and I LOVE it! So I have only tried two types so far but I have my eye on some others I want to try.
My favorite thing to paint...hmmmm I have to say my favorite thing to paint is Unicorns and Horses. I love however to paint what I call feathers which is just a loose mass of swirls and commas. I love being able to do my own thing, I like it best when the person in my chair says do what ever you want, I have so much fun creating some thing new.
As a Face Painter I have one goal Never let a person leave my chair unhappy or sad. I seek out kids at events the ones on the edges with no pocket money and always try and give at least one Free Face Paint at every event. It's my way of Paying it Forward, it's my way of doing a small goodness in the world. It's not always about the money.
